Checking In

Mission:
Getting To Know You
Location: XO's office
Following her Checkup in Medical, Amanda thought she had better go and check in with the Executive Officer. She hadn't met them before, but she hoped they'd get along. She got into the turbolift and manually selected the correct deck. Walking out she went straight to the XO's door and pushed the door bell. While she waited, she smoothed down her uniform, and made sure she looked presentable.
Lengthy ears perked up at the chime, drawing Ichiko from her revery. She had been reading over a PaDD worth the details of the situation as it was known, though truly she only needed to read it once. Not like it was bound to change.
"Hai, hairu." She called to the door chime, bidding her guest entry.
Amanda walked in, coming to stand at attention before the XO's desk. She snapped off a quick salute, and stood at attention. "Marine Captain Amanda Foxwell reporting sir." She said crisply, letting her saluting hand fall to her side, remaining at attention.
Ichiko stood, giving the matter the attention it deserved, and gave Amanda a nod. "At ease." seeing something of military precision brought a smirk to her features. "I expect that a readiness report was submitted to the captain. Tell me about yourself and your unit." she motioned to a chair, "Have a seat. Preference for tea or coffee?" she offered.
Amanda nodded, taking the offered seat. "Thank you Commander. Coffee would be lovely, black, one sugar." She answered, smiling. "The Captain has the readiness report, yes." She answered, waiting for the XO to return to the desk.
Ichiko gave a nod as she returned with the mug of joe, as the humans would call it. Blacker than the abyss of space, with one sugar added to sweeten oblivion's embrace. She then returned to her side of the desk and took a seat, a fresh cup of tea in her possession. "Back home, there is no distinction between a security force and a marine force aboard one of the starships of the Ts'usugi Empire. It would be safer to say that the marines ARE the security force. No blur of the line between the two. No concern as to the call to action."
"Starfleet making a distinction between the two has confused me a little, but with each day the confusion clears a little. Specialization allows for each department to act without, as they say, stepping on toes. Would you say this is a fair assessment of the split between the two?" she asked, "And please, be honest. I'd rather you speak your mind than speak to my rank."
"I think it has its advantages and disadvantages...the advantages are that we can do our own thing, rather than have to always worry about the security of the ship as a whole. The disadvantages are that when we do have to work together theres always a degree of...hostility?" She said, unsure of the exact wording to use. "Security and Marines usually don't get along well together, i've found that alot in previous postings. Maybe this will prove to be the exception. I don't know I haven't met with the Chief of Security on board yet." She said, smiling, and taking a sip of her coffee. The Coffee had its usual replicated taste, which was ever so slightly more bitter than she was used to.
"Something of a professional rivalry, or actual veiled antagonism?" the rabbitess asked for clarity's sake. "I've served aboard a Starfleet ship before, but from this side of the desk the perspective is different." a pause, "I want everything to run smooth but I'm also aware that in order for that to happen I need everyone on the same page. Right now, let's get everyone reading the same book." she offered a smirk.
Amanda nodded. "More of a professional rivalry, although some places have been more than that. As I said, i've yet to meet the CSEC here, so things could be different here." She smiled. "I want everyone to get along just as much as you, I don't want us to be butting heads, especially not during missions." She said.
Ichiko gave a nod. She couldn't agree more. "I have a feeling you'll have a clearer picture of where everyone sees themselves once you meet up with CSEC. If you have the time, I'd suggest that be your next stop." a pause to take a sip of her tea, "Though, that can wait until things here are concluded. I'll check in with the captain for a brief of the readiness report. No need to file twice." a pause, "Please don't file twice." she smirked.
"Was there anything else you needed, wanted to discuss? Questions, concerns?"
Amanda shook her head. "Nothing from me, just thought i'd come and introduce myself. And I won't file it twice. I know how bad the paperwork can be." She said, smiling.
"I appreciate only having to read something once." she smirked, "And, consider yourself introduced Marine Captain Amanda Foxwell. Ever shall my door be open to you." there was a protocol there, a mantra of sorts.
"Feel free to relax, take the moment while you can. Finish your coffee, and then you can return to your duties."
"Thank you Commander." She said, finishing her drink, before standing and going to leave. "I will see you around." She said, making her way out of the office, and towards her next stop.
