Charybdis Sector

The Charybdis Sector, is a region of space that starships usually avoid.
Within the sector, various radiation sources and energy fluctuations impair communications systems, making it difficult for vessels inside the nebula to make contact with those outside the sector.
The sector is known to be characterized by constant rolling plasma storms. Residual plasma decay from the storms has been proved to leave pockets of Metreon gas through the sector, which, upon reaching critical mass, are often ignited by the passing of the next plasma storm.

Due to the rolling plasma storms, the metreon gas explosions and the funnel clouds randomly appearing throughout the sector, the entire sector appears almost as if it were in a state of constant flux and is largely unmapped.
The volatility of the sector make travel through the area difficult.
Warp drives cannot be used, and even impulse drives are undermined.

The Charybdis Sector has a history of destruction and devastation. Since earliest travel in the sector has been recorded the Charybdis Sector has seen the destruction of many ships, the most notable incident being the presumed destruction of the USS Aganora, and the USS Reverie. Both ships entered the Sector on June 27th on a scientific exploration mission to chart the sector for Starfleet records.
Both ships were presumed destroyed with almost two hundred lives lost.

Because of this, the entire sector had been declared a no travel zone by Starfleet in 2382. Beacons were set up to alert travellers of the danger and probes were established to record and transmit telemetry for constant monitoring.
