| Personal History | Abigail was born on January 28th, 2355, in New England on Earth to parents James and Laura Matthews. Her childhood was very ordinary. Her father, James, worked as a civilian doctor in a small practice while her mother stayed home, writing childrens stories and raising her children. Abigail proved early on she had a very outgoing personality and was always surrounded by lots of friends. Despite her love for social activities, she did well in school and graduated from high school with good grades, but no idea what she wanted to actually do with her life. It was during summer break that she met Mark Laurens when she was on vacation with some friends. The two hit it off immediately and before their break was over Abigail was convinced that she was in love. As Mark had signed up to attend Starfleet Academy, Abigail decided that she would do the same, initially opting to study in the field of Security. During her time at the Academy, her brother Declan was killed in an accident, something Abigail never really recovered from. The two had always had a close bond. Abigail and Mark married right after graudation and were initially assigned to the USS Gettysberg together, with Mark being offered a position of Engineering Offier and Abigail taking the position of Security Officer. It was about 6 months after they took their respective postings on the USS Gettysberg that they divorced, for reasons that she has never really discussed outside of her immediate chain of command at the time. Shortly after Abigail transferred to the USS Rawlings as a Security officer. Now on her own and loving her new life, Abigail threw herself whole heartedly into pursuring her career with a new goal of taking on her own command. She went through several promotions before being offered the position of Chief Security Officer aboard the USS Rawlings. She remained as Chief Security Officer on the Rawlings for almost a year before transferring to the USS Bastion as Chief of Security which came shortly after with a promotion to Commander, where she remained until being offered her command of the USS Astraea. |
