Mission: War and Peacekeeping
Location: Bridge

William checked the readouts from the aft starboard thrusters a second time. He tapped his comm badge requesting a channel to whoever was working on flight systems in engineering. "I'm showing aft starboard 3 & 4 as running over pressure, are you reading the same?" He received acknowledgement of the problem and an indication that it would be checked and reported back.

So far so routine.

In line with the Captain's orders he'd pegged the course and speed of the Astraea to keep them exactly 12 hours behind the Zendaya. A warning light flashed on his console - loss of signal. William frowned as he brought up the affected display on his console: the readings from the Zendaya. He turned towards the crewman manning the science station. "I've lost telemetry for the Zendaya. Are you still getting readings?"

Louisa tapped at her console momentarily before glancing back toward Rogers. "No Sir," she said with a quick shake of her head. She tapped at the console, trying to reroute their sensors. "I don't think it's a problem with the sensors, we can still read most everything else without a problem. Could it be a problem with the Zendaya?"

"Maybe." William scrubbed a hand across his chin while he tried to quickly come up with a course of action and who to notify. "Okay, see if you can pick her back up on sensors. I'll look over the telemetry we gathered prior to the LOS. Maybe that'll shed some light on things."

"Sir, I can't get the sensors to detect a warp signature, but long range scans indicate that the vessel appears to be still in the correct region of space. Could they be using some kind of dampening technology to hide their warp signature?" Louisa asked curiously.

"Don't know of anything capable of doing that off the top of my head," William replied, his eyes on the looping display of the last minutes of sensor data. "Keep an eye on them for now and give a shout if they start moving. I'll call it in." He tapped his comm badge. "Rogers to Commander Laurens."

Abigail had just walked out of the mess hall when her comm badge chirped. She sighed softly as she reached up and tapped it. "Laurens," she replied quietly. "What can I do for you Lieutenant Rogers?"

"You wanted to be informed if something unexpected happened with the Zendaya, Ma'am?" Bill offered. "We lost their warp signature a few moments go. We've reacquired her on long range sensors but she's staying put in real space."

She paused for a moment, contemplating on the situation. "Okay, just keep monitoring the situation and let me know if anything else changes," Abigail said quietly. "We don't want to be too concerned just yet, it could be nothing."

"Copy that. Rogers out."

Abigail sighed and shook her head as she started walking through the ship, heading back toward her ready room. She should have known this was not going to be a straight forward taxi ride. That would, of course, have been far too simple for her first journey into command.
