The Game is Afoot

Mission: Let The Games Begin
Will entered the turbolift and nodded at the young Trill officer in there. "Main bridge." The turbolift started moving. "Good morning, Lieutenant," Will said in way of greeting to his turbolift companion.
Kal Toran was a recently promoted lieutenant j.g. who was handing alpha shift conn pending the formal appointment of a chief conn officer. "Good morning, Commander," he said in return. After a moment, he said, "So, what do you think of those two Ts'Usugi teams so far?"
"Surprisingly, they seem like a lot of athletes that I've either seen or heard about from other worlds," Will said. "Very...direct. Which I suppose shouldn't be a surprise. One doesn't take on a career as a pro athlete unless you very much enjoy being in the spotlight."
"I agree. They do seem like most athletes I've ever seen. I'd almost go so far as to say they're cocky, though I guess that means the same thing."
"True, but they do also seem at least cordial towards us." Will replied. "Commander Gail had me make up some welcome baskets for them when they came on board, and in particular they seemed quite fascinated by the carrot cake made using my grandmother's not-so-secret recipe."
"Carrot cake?" Kal said. "You'll have to send some my way. My Academy roommate's best friend introduced me to it a few years ago. Very much like janka cake back on Trill. Interesting that you can make a dessert out of a root vegetable on more than one world."
"Yes. Never underestimate the ability of species to make something interesting out of the mundane," Will said. At that point, the turbolift stopped, and the doors opened to reveal the main bridge. The two officers got off and moved towards their stations.
"So, you going to the game?" Kal asked.
"I might have to," Will said. "My son's been asking to go, so we'll see about it."
