Mission: Enforced Intermission
"Lieutenant, could I speak with you a moment?" Lt. j.g. Tamarack said, poking his head into Will's office. "I know that you have just returned from the surface, and I am to understand that the mission was...eventful, but something has come up that perhaps you should be aware of.
"No, it's not a problem," Will said. "What have you got?"
"During some routine work, I noticed some glitches in a few secondary systems. At first, it did not seem like much, and I took steps to address the issue, but it seems to have progressed. A few other glitches have appeared, and some random files seem to have been deleted. These deletions do not seem to be affecting any systems, but if that is happening, then that is...disconcerting, to say the least."
"Show me what we're looking at here," Will said, turning his computer monitor around so Tamarack could get to it. "It's possible we may have picked up a virus of some sort back in the Kessik system. Given who we ran into on Kessik III, who knows what other less-than-savory individuals might want to take a crack at a Starfleet vessel."
Tamarack pulled up the relevant information and went over it, along with the work he had done so far, with Will.
Will nodded. "Definitely looks like a virus. Let's see what we can do to address this, shall we?"
The two set to work, and soon cornered and dealt with the virus.
"Good work in bringing this to my attention," Will told Tamarack. "But at the same time, let's keep an eye on things, shall we? I don't want to say that that was too easy, but..."
"Are you concerned that there might be more to it than that?" Tamarack asked.
"Well, as an old Earth saying goes, just because you're paranoid, it doesn't mean they're not out to get you. Personally, I'd rather be safe than sorry. We somehow got a virus once already here, after all."
Tamarack nodded. "I shall keep an eye on things then, as you put it."
