White Wolf On Deck
Posted on Tue Oct 13th, 2020 @ 2:32pm by Captain Abigail Laurens & Lieutenant Craig O'Donnaghue
Mission:
Into The Delta Triangle
Location: Hanger Bay/Captains Office
The peregrine fighter dropped out of warp, by Kessik IV, Lieutenant Craig O'Donnaghue sat in the cockpit. His helmet adorning his head as he pushed the fighter to its full impulse, pressing the comms button next to his joystick "This is white-wolf to the USS Astraea"he said as he saw the Akira class come into view. His peregrine fighter had seen him through the dominion war, he had kept it since his first tour and it was as lucky to him as his zippo lighter was. He turned about to face the akira class, to make his landing easier.
Pressing the comm button again "White wolf to Astraea command hands on approach I repeat hands on approach" he said pushing the impulse engines a little harder as he approached the large ship "What a beauty" He spoke in a brash Irish accent as he pulled his small fighter into a direct docking position, awaiting conformation from the ship.
The notification that they had been assigned a new Group Commander in their Starfighter Wing had come as a surprise to Abigail, yet it was a welcome one, especially given the current state of chaos on the surface. The return of the first away team had brought something resembling assurance, but she wouldn't rest easy until she knew her crew, her entire crew, was home safely.
It was the need for distraction that had her standing outside the hangar, waiting. Through her comm she could hear the communication on the bridge with Lieutenant O'Donnaghue and knew that he had been given clearance to land, now she was waiting on confirmation that he had landed and she could safely enter the hangar.
As Craig received notification that his hands on approach had been approved, his fighter pulled in towards the hanger. It was a large hanger bay and the smile on the newly minted group commanders face, anyone would think he'd just had the best news of his life. Noticing the rest of the fighters, he knew he had a lot of work ahead of him. As the peregrine fighter was set down and the engines cut he grabbed his duffle bag, as the cockpit led up he jumped out "Top of the mornin to ye" he said tipping his head to the deck hands.
The sound of his voice rang out loud and clear across the deck. Abigail paused for a moment and watched him before shaking her head, a small smile playing at the corners of her mouth. "You must be Lieutenant O'Donnaghue," she held her hand toward him. "Captain Abigail Laurens, welcome aboard the USS Astraea."
As he saw his new commanding officer, he dropped his duffle to the right as it was slung right across him "Lieutenant Craig O'Donnaghue At your service Captain Laurens" he said saluting her "thank you Captain" he said smiling as held out his hand " Do we have a situation I need briefing on?" He asked matter of factly, Craig was a man of many words, far many more actions "I'm eager to get the pilots out to see what they can do" he said putting his helmet in his bag.
Abigail shook her head again. "The current situation is not dire enough that you need to be concerned before you find your footing on the ship," she replied, motioning toward the door for them to walk. "Your arrival, though unexpected, is a welcome diversion from pacing the bridge." She smiled again. "I trust you had no difficulty finding us?"
Craig smiled "Well that I'm glad of that captain" he said as he walked along side her "If you don't mind my asking what is the current situation?" he asked a quizzical look on his face, Craig was a tactical man he kind of had to figure most things out on his own but luckily now he had a leader to follow "No Ma'am Punched the Coordinates in and Whitewolf did the rest" He said with a slight wink.
There was a soft laugh. "Well, I guess that makes it easy," she said as they turned into the corridor. "Our current situation? Long story short, we were sent to the Kessik sector looking for Breloc Tejar, it was rumoured that he was on Kessik III or Kessik IV. Our away team on Kessik IV was involved in a mine collapse. We have teams on the surface now facilitating their rescue and an emergency response crew en route from Starbase 332."
Craigs face pulled into one of concern "I don't like that name and I don't know why I don't like that name" he was puzzled a little bit "Atleast we have an emergency crew on route is there anything I can do to help?" he asked shifting the position of his bag as he pondered the situation.
"Currently we are in a holding pattern. We've sent a second team down to the surface with a mining bug?" There was a moment of uncertainty as she wondered if that was the right term. "It will drill through the collapse and deliver transport pattern enhancers. Once they're online we have two shuttles standing by to help transport people out as quickly as possible and get them home." She paused, a sigh escaping her lips as they continued, her shoulders slipping slightly. "All we can do is wait at this stage and hope the bug gets through before the seismic activity causes further destabilization of the mine."
He took everything that his commanding officer was saying "understood captain" he said grabbing the pad from his bag "Previous assignment and file for your convenience" he said walking along side her "I've seen those drills in action awesome little bits of kit" He said looking around "I haven't been on an akira class and so far she's a dream captain" he said with a wide eyed look "The Andromeda was sovereign class so to big for my liking really" He said with a slight laugh "Do we have a Bar on ship captain?" he asked of course that was the only question he needed to ask.
"The Raging Deity, Deck 5," Abigail replied with a smile. "Ms Zachariah does have quite a selection. I'm not sure where she gets it, and I'll be honest, I'm not sure I want to know."
Craig laughed "With a name like that I daren't say I'll spent a lot of time in there" he said laughing a little "As long as she has an Irish whiskey and Irish stout we'll get on just fine" he said with a slight wink.
"Well, she hasn't disappointed the crew yet," Abigail said with a laugh. "So you were on the Andromeda before transferring here? I've heard good things about the ship and the crew, especially the Captain. I'm sure I have big shoes to fill."
Craig smiled “The Andromeda was a great ship I was with her for a long time even saw out the dominion war with her” Craig said as he waited for her to walk ahead “Captain O’Driscoll is a great leader captain, rather haunted by memories of the war now but it couldn’t be avoided” Craig held a lot of respect and love For Fenris O’Driscoll His previous CO, but the truth was the man was a haunted shell of his previous self “It is unfortunate that he had to be discharged from Service due to his mental health” it wasn't a lie he had been and the new captain of the andromeda he knew nothing of just as he was being reassigned the new captain arrived “So my flight group how many are we?” He asked with a brief smile, Clutching to his bag as it swung.
"Actually, we're lucky, we are hosts two two Ts'usugi blink fighters." Abigail smiled, her voice filled with pride as she spoke. "I'm not actually aware of any other ship in Starfleet that has them, so it's definitely a coup for us. Their technology is quite impressive." She paused as they stepped into the turbolift. "Other than that, we don't have the biggest flight group in the quadrant, but they're good. I'm sure you'll not find cause for complaint."
Craig looked to her "Blink fighters I haven't quite herd of them but they sound like they pack a nice punch" he said looking to her "I'm used to working with small fighter groups the Andromeda had a small one I kinda like that way" he said stepping into the turbo lift "I'm sure I can whip them into shape captain" He said with a small wiry smile.
"Good." The turbolift stopped, doors parting to reveal a long corridor in front of them. "Your quarters should be straight down there and to the left. I suggest you get yourself settled in and take the time to get to know the ship while things are as quiet as they can be. If we need your assistance on the surface you'll be summoned."
as the turbo doors opened Craig looked to his commanding officer "Understood captain" he said grabbing his bag "I will be sure to quaint my self with the ship first stop the bar once I'm settled" he said laughing "If you need me ill be in the lounge captain hey feel free to join me" he said walking off in the direction of his quarters.
"I'll keep that in mind," Abigail replied, watching as he walked away, the doors closing between them. Finally, once the turbolift started moving again she shook her head slightly. He was definitely an interesting individual.
