Mission: War and Peacekeeping
Location: Sickbay

Bill ran the scan a second time to confirm. There would be no second chances for what they were attempting. Several wires snaked out of the corpse cupboard in which Evita was being stored, all connecting to the console at which the pilot was stood. A small layer of refrigerant gases, displaced by the thawing process but too cold to evaporate at the temperature of room. He looked across to the Doctor. "We're go for wake up."

Calvin thought about counting down and saying blast off before he started the process, chuckled to himself, and replied, "Roger, starting the process." He tapped away at the console, the gentle noise of forcefields and moving air emanating quietly from the corpse cupboard. Calvin chuckled at himself, muttering Roger, a joke of the ages to himself. "The process looks like it is starting well. Her vitals are fluctuating a little due to the stress but are within limits for the time being."

"Keep an eye on her circulation. That's where the first signs of trouble with a thaw tend to occur." Bill suggested.

"Understood," He replied back, his hovering over the console, occasionally pecking at different buttons and diagrams. "Circulation looks good, perfusion is staying strong. Blood pressure seems constant. Based off the temperature she should start waking up soon I think," He turned and looked at Bill. "Maybe?"

There was movement. The slight jerk of a pinky finger, the flicker of an eyelid, a twitch of a hand, but it was definite movement from Evita as the cold slowly started to ebb from her body.

"She'll be fully conscious in about a minute or so." Bill informed Calvin. "Figured out what you're going to say to her?"

Seeing all the numbers progressing well, he felt okay peeling his eyes off the screen. Looking at Bill he shrugged, "Hello maybe? Welcome back from the dead? I see you gave someone the cold shoulder?" He walked over to the cupboard, seeing the numbers almost at room temperature, or at least room temperature of the cold morgue, and unlatched and opened the cupboard so she could crawl out once she had her senses.

Bill chuckled. "I'd suggest something about relaxing and not trying to do too much. She might be defrosted but she'll need to warm up before attempting anything strenuous. Also, that the headache will go away. It'll take a couple of days, but it will go away."

Evita wasn't aware of how much time had passed or what had happened. An involuntary shiver ran down her spine as her eyelids flickered before they opened suddenly and she drew a deep, shuddering breath. She tried to speak but words couldn't formulate in her mouth. Instead she whimpered softly, hands reaching blindly trying to grasp something, anything solid.

"Computer, bring lights down 5 levels," Calvin requested as he opened the cupboard door and slid her out of the cramped hole she had been occupying. The lights came down to barely visible, a gift to Evita's eyes which would not be ready to accommodate bright lights. "Evita, you were in a coma. You are waking up now. The world is going to be weird for a bit, try to focus on breathing. Everything will go back to normal soon."

Squeezing her eyes closed, a pained expression crossed Evita's face as even the low light hit her. "V...V...Vin..." she stammered, her voice broken, though not entirely clear if it were from the cold or something else. An involuntary shiver ran through her and she started to pull her knees up, trying to find some kind of warmth against the cold that seemed to invade all the way to her bones.

Evita's reaction drew an involuntary shudder from Bill. He had to stop himself trying to rub the cold from his arms second. "Here, this'll help. Don't try to talk, just take a moment to breath." He said, draping a foil blanket over Evita's shoulders, offering up advice he'd found useful coming out of cryogenics.

Evita shivered almost violently, fingers gripping at the foil blanket as it covered her, keeping her eyes squeezed tightly closed, deciding that the best course of events was to just do as she was told. "C..c...cold..." she stammered again, her voice stuttering with her shivers.

"Yeah, well when someone leaves you in an industrial freezer, that tends to happen," Calvin said, mostly to himself as he grabbed the heated blanket and wrapped it around her. He put a couple commands into the blanket's controls, to gently warm her up so it wouldn't shock her body.

She stopped talking, allowing the warmth from the heated blanket to start seeping into her body, her shivers starting to slow, even the crinkling sounds of her hands on the first foil blanket she had been given had started to lessen. "Freezer?" she asked, opening her eyes slowly and cringing at even the low light before she turned her confused gaze to Bill and Calvin.

"It's a long story." Bill explained. He kept a concerned eye on the woman, monitoring the progress of her recovery, relying on his training rather than unfamiliar instruments. "Short version is someone tried to kill you." He turned to Calvin. "Time to get the Captain, I think."

No sooner had Bill spoken than Abigail entered the room. "I'm already here," she said quietly. "I wanted to check in on the patient." As she walked across the room, she stopped next to where the two men were working. "How are you feeling Evita?" she asked gently.

Evita looked at Abigail, now even more confused, she opened her mouth to speak but stopped, closing her mouth again before she turned her attention back to Bill. "Kill... me?" There was clear confusion on her face as she looked around.

"Well they weren't saving you for another day," Calvin said with his usual jolly sarcasm, going back to his screen to check on her vitals. "Captain, I'd like to monitor for a few hours to make sure, but she should be fine."

"You were poisoned and left for us to find in the Bar's freezer." He thought about joking with the Doctor that freezing was actually a very effective way of storing things, but thought better of it. "If it wasn't for the Doc you wouldn't have made it."

Abigail nodded slightly toward Calvin. "Keep me updated Lieutenant. Once she's more alert let me know. I'd like to speak with her before we reach Trion." Without waiting for a reply, Abigail turned and walked out of the morgue, glad to be leaving the area.

Pulling the heated blanket around her, Evita closed her eyes again. "Maybe dreaming..." she murmured softly. "Bad dreaming."

"Aye aye," Calvin responded pointlessly after the Captain left before turning back to Evita. "Dear, I wish it was a bad dream, I really wish, but you aren't dreaming," Calvin stated, frowning slightly at her, wondering the trauma she went through to get herself in this place.
