Mission:
Retrobandonment
Location: Sickbay
Timeline: Current
In between his duties, Paul made his way to the sick bay on deck 4. He wasn't a fan of doctors, but at least they kept you well.
He soon arrived at the large doors to Sickbay, which opened with a swish as he approached. On entry, he got accustomed to the slightly brighter lighting. A nurse approached him.
"Can I help you, Crewman?" she asked.
"Yes, please. I am here for my physical and check-up. " Paul replied.
"Please take a seat on Biobed 3, and I will advise the doctor that you are here," the nurse replied, directing him to the biobed, on which he promptly sat.
The nurse weaved her way through other people to the CMO's office. She ducked her head in briefly, "Biobed 3, physical." Calvin nodded as the nurse disappeared off to her next task. Calvin took a moment to finish the notes he was making on his previous patient before standing up, stretching, and donning his medical coat.
With a steady pace, his mind worked on other tasks as he walked to the bio bed. He glanced at the crewman, his mind already working through his medical assessment. "I am Lt. Cmdr. Morgan, Chief Medical Officer. How are we today? What is your name, Crewman?"
"I am doing well, Doctor. I am Crewman Paul Randall."
Calvin nodded, his eyes glancing at the screen connected to the biobed. He stood there silently, skimming previous medical documents, not that there were many. "Reports have you relatively healthy I see, any complaints today?" The doctor moved past the screen to the Crewman. "Lay down, let's do a quick physical exam while we talk."
Paul laid back on the biobed. Getting himself comfortable. "No complaints that I'm aware of. Although, I do on the occasion, have trouble getting to sleep. Not all the time but occasionally."
Calvin's attention bounced between the vitals being displayed on the bed and the patient. No abnormalities were showing in either case. As he finished his physical assessment of the patient, he side stepped to a panel to start jotting notes down. "Do you have trouble staying asleep once you do fall asleep? Any changes in habits on those days? Caffeine, stress, wake up times, etc?"
" I just find it difficult to get to sleep some nights. I have recently started having coffee more often whilst I work. Perhaps that might be having an effect? "
"It is the most likely culprit," the doctor replied with a subtle nodding motion. "I would suggest no coffee 6 to 8 hours prior to your intended bedtime. A new assignment and ship can also be a factor. If adjusting your caffeine intake does not solve the problem, log the days you have trouble sleeping. Note bedtimes, stress, any possible relevant factors. We can discuss sleep aids at that point."
Calvin stopped talking to jot some more notes down. He never trusted his memory to remember the details. "Your physical looks good. Stop by the lab to have blood drawn. No news is good news as far as the lab. Any other concerns?"
"Ok. Thanks doctor. I will go get those bloods done. I will feedback as to my sleep issues if things improve or not "
Calvin nodded. "If nothing else, you are free to go."
" Thank you doctor. See you around. "
As Paul left sickbay, the scene fades out.
