A Day In The Life

Location: Starfleet Academy
Timeline: during the later part of the refit

William gathered his stuff up at the end of his last lecture of the day at Starfleet Academy. Several of the third and fourth year cadets stopped by as he was doing so, commenting on how they'd liked his presentation. After he picked up his satchel, he headed out the door, joined by Captain Torbin Vass, the head of the Academy's Ops division. The two had known each other for

"I'll admit I've missed you, Commander," the Trill officer said. "I still think you're missing your true calling. Sure I can't woo you into transferring back onto the Academy staff full-time?"

"I'll admit that the peace and quiet does sound appealing," Will replied. "But I feel my place is, at least for right now, on the Astraea. At the same time, I do want to thank you for letting me do these lectures while the Astraea's undergoing the refit. It's nice to be able to keep busy, and I'm not sure the refit team would appreciate me breathing down their necks."

"I'm sure they wouldn't," Vass admitted with a bit of a laugh. "You do have a way with the lecture topics, at least."

"A part of these is just coming up with things that aren't normally covered by the regular coursework," Will said. "Throw in some bit of humor and a random bit of Vulcan logic or Klingon proverb and you've got yourself a lecture."

"Yes, I noticed how you threw in the 58th Rule of Acquisition there near the end," Vass said.

"I was wondering if anyone would pick up on that," Will said.

"Anyway, don't let me keep you," Vass said. "Tell your boy I said hello, though I suppose I can't keep referring to him as 'boy' for much longer, can I? He seems to be getting bigger every time I see him."

"Yes, he does," Will said with a laugh before heading back to the temporary quarters that he and Cole had been assigned for the time being.
