Mission: The Library
Location: Between the planets Argella and K'ryth'rall
Timeline: Year 2242

Contains profanity, descriptions of combat violence, and bloodshed.

The year is 2238. As humans expand their territories they encountered resistance in the form of the K'ryth'ralli, a humanoid race laying claim to the planet, Argella, after humans had colonized her. It seems that one member from their government had issues with humans, and in spite of essentially the whole population objecting, has launched repeated attacks on settlements and encampments. This subsequently forced the formation of the United Colony Special Forces, a team of highly trained military combat personnel. They protect human populations against K'ryth'ralli attacks on Argella with skilled precision. The attacks seemed to cease a few years after the UCSF was first deployed. Humanity thought the attacks were over and that the K'ryth'ralli were sent packing back to their home world. Humanity thought they were safe on this planet they colonized. They were wrong. Terrifyingly wrong.

The Incident

22MAR2242. The day started like any other day. The twin suns rose in the west like they always did. Solar panels began absorbing the energy needed to operate daily life. At an astronomical outpost near the northern pole, an alarm sounds, one that was just installed as protocol, but never expected to sound. Scientists watched in curious speculation as the tiny object seemed to materialize from between the suns. Analysis by photon sensory array indicated that the object was small, almost puny. Barely 2 meters across, cataclysmic in shape. It was racing toward Argella on no apparent course. About the time it entered the atmosphere, the observers wrote it off as super heated dust. But another alarm sounded. The object had altered its trajectory to align with one of the largest agricultural communities on Argella; Tsoram. At 0.34 kilometers before impact, it flashed. A blinding light, bright enough to cause the observation team to shield their eyes, even from the image of the flash. After a moment, the horror began. Where once stood Tsoram, population 285,000, was a crater, 25 kilometers across. No community, no object. Gone.

The Report

24MAR2242. News traveled quickly, all across the world. The population was in a frenzied panic. Rumors of the K'ryth'ralli were everywhere. Religious facilities were packed with people praying, repenting, giving all their currency in hopes of salvation, but it didn't matter. This was not the act of any deity. It was the introduction of what the UCSF referred to as a "singularity device". Drones had flown into the crater at Tsoram to analyze the area. No radiation, not even excessive solar activity. No chemical residue. No scorching, no freezing. It was like someone took a giant scoop out of the surface and made it all vanish into thin air. The best explanation the scientific community could muster was that a microscopic singularity had been dropped on Tsoram. A black hole bomb, but so tiny as to take a small area out with zero residual effects. The entirety of the UCSF was on high alert, ready to be space borne in a matter of seconds. Recruitment was off the charts, almost to the point where training facilities were swimming in people ready to fight. Future generations would read of "The Tsoram Incident" and learn who the K'ryth'ralli were.

The Declaration Of Action

15APR2242. The Presidents of the occupied continents all signed the document at the Summit For World Security. All parties unanimously voted to take military action against the K'ryth'ralli. All divisions of the UCSF were ready to go. Let me introduce myself. My name is Lieutenant Charalyne "Charly" Blackwood, UCSF, second in command of Alpha Two Fife unit. The entire Alpha pack were going to be on a potentially one way mission to the K'ryth'ralli home world. 72 troops. Argella is the 4th planet in the dual solar system, Magellan's Eyes. K'ryth'rall is the fifth. By a very narrow margin, roughly 764,000 kilometers. Earlier expeditions to Argella figured out real quick to avoid coastal areas. High tide in some places is almost a kilometer above low tide. Argellan gravity is 96% of earth (so we're told in schools) but when K'ryth'rall is overhead, it can drop to as low as 76% for a few hours. Structures required very different reinforcements to remain standing. K'ryth'ralli is a whole other ball of dirt. Breathable air, but with a noticeable bleachy odor. Research teams found nothing toxic about the air aside from industrial types of pollution, and barely trace amounts of that. Gravity is 88%, natural resources are present. One rotation is 32 hours; one orbit around the suns is 403 24 hour days. Lots of rocky terrain, wide open plains, strong presence of agriculture, some naturally wooded areas. We're being sent there, not to wipe them out, but to gather intel on the singularity bombs before more are launched and maybe shut them down. We just want the neighborhood to be a quiet place.
