A different kind of meet'n'greet

Posted on Fri Jul 19th, 2019 @ 7:03am by Lieutenant Commander William Gunnison & Lieutenant Aleksander Voroshilov

Mission: War and Peacekeeping
Location: Lt. Voroshilov's office

Will went to the office of the ship's Intel chief, Lt. Voroshilov nad pressed the door chime

Aleksi was leaning back in chair, staring at the painting he had just hung. He'd won it off an art dealer some time ago, though the man still wanted him to pay for the provenance paperwork. It was annoying, but clever. It was the chime that brought him out of his trance. Without looking away he shouted, "Enter!"

"Good morning," Will said upon entering. "Not sure how well you remember me. We went to the Academy together."

Aleksi looked at the man with a smile, "Not at all my friend," Standing up he offered his hand. It's likely they may have passed in the hallway but Aleksi was not the most social of animals when he was a career. He also wasn't known for sentimentality, "But a classmate is always welcome."

"Anyway, the reason I'm here is because I feel that perhaps we need to have a little talk about some recent events, particularly in relation to an old friend of yours who's also been assigned to the ship, Master Chief Petty Officer Konig."

"Friend may be a bit strong of a word," Taking his seat, Aleksi looked at the man with a bit of curiosity. The way he talked about König spoke to a degree of frustration, "I take it he's been getting under your skin in some fashion. Unsurprising, he does that with a lot of people."

"Yes, he does seem to have a knack for knowing how to push people's buttons, doesn't he?" Will said. "In particular, though, he seems to have reason to believe that you're a threat to the safety of the crew. Or, to be more specific, he feels that you shouldn't be allowed access to sharp objects of any sort, and it's a case he apparently pitched with success to the captain, to the point where she directed me to put safety locks on the ship's replicators in order to deny you access to said sharp objects. You may have noticed it to some extent by now."

"That would explain why I had to cut my steak with a bayonet," Aleksi laughed at the statement, "I mean, it certainly isn't the dumbest idea I've ever heard. If I were Commander Laurens and my Chief of Boat, who had some experience training her Chief of Intelligence, told me to restrict Intel Chief's access to knives, I'd probably do the same thing."

It was a bit on the nose, but he expected that from the Chief. Andorians may have been bad at subtlety, but Germans didn't try, "So, is that it?"

"It would seem so," Will said. "I was kind of wondering why I even came here. Chief Konig may indeed have some basis for concern - I don't really know you and don't know what you would and wouldn't do under certain circumstances. But if you had reason to believe that another member of the crew is dangerous, only going to the CO and ops chief and insisting they restrict that person's replicator privileges is probably not the sole, or even first, thing most people would propose. Yet when I mentioned that it was the kind of thing that Lt. Matashi and/or Counselor Engels should be brought in on it, Chief Konig...well, he seemed almost annoyed that I'd even suggest such a thing."

Will shrugged. "I suppose that I believe that there are two sides to every story, and I just wanted to hear yours."

"The Chief is a trained killer and he trained killers," Aleksi felt it important to add that bit of context first, "He trained me. He knows to a point what I'm capable of when forced into a corner. It's not a place you want to meet me. Commander Laurens was already suspicious of me when I came on board, Chief must have explained his impressions of me which swayed her into deciding I needed to eat my steak like a barbarian."

Aleksi hadn't been happy discovering the 'malfunction' with his replicator, though the fact Koenig had a part in it amused him, "She made that decision, no matter how wrong you think it is, for the protection of her crew. I can assure you that I have no plans to harm the crew, but I also understand why she may think otherwise."

Leaning back a little a small smirk appeared on his lips, a little disappointed the Chief didn't restrict his access to scrap metal as well, "It sounds to me you have your marching orders my friend. I'd suggest you go through with them until such time those orders are withdrawn."

"They have indeed been implemented," Will said. "I suppose the reason I'm here is if for other reason I figured that at the very least you should hear about it from me first. I'm not much in the mood to find you at the doors to my quarters at three in the morning demanding to know why the replicators wouldn't give you your favorite kind of toothpick. Now, if there's nothing else, good day to you, and enjoy your steaks."

In time the man would realize that Aleksi had helped out his image in front of the boss. The loss of privileges was one thing, but it wasn't Will's doing, it was a privilege Aleksi would have to earn. Just like any other prisoner, "And good day to you sir."
