In Board

Mission: If You Like Pina Coladas
Timeline: )Backpost)

Mica entered the sickbay with her usual soft smile plastered on her face. Despite the drama with her brother and the incident with the XO, which still troubled her, the woman was sufficiently rested and ready for her first chief position.

Placing her hands behind her back, she glanced around the empty room. "Hello? Doc?"

Calvin was in his zone reorganizing equipment when he heard his name. He poked his head up like a meerkat in the direction of the voice. "Yes? How may I help you?"

"Lieutenant Mica Rue, sir, ass...uhh chief engineer."

"Ah," He said smiling and standing up. "Are you sure your Chief Engineer?" He asked next, with a smile walking over to her. "What can I do for your Lieutenant?"

She grinned at the man. "Here for my boarding physical, doctor, if you have the time."

"Time? Time! There is always time, just a matter of how we spend it, is it not?" Calvin responded with a artificial air of philosophical stature. "Hop on up on that bio bed over there and we can make that happen Lieutenant." Calvin wandered over to the control console to boot up the bed for diagnostics and began prepping his tricorder.

Mica walked over, lifting herself onto the bed. "You are a lot cheerier than the last few Chief Doctors I've encountered. Are you usually this uplifting?"

Calvin shrugged, walking around the console which began it's automated vital assessments. "No reason not to enjoy life I say," He smiled. "Besides I'm secretly jaded and hate everyone. I just put up this front because it's easier." He winked at her, bringing the tricorder up to his patient. "I'm going to do a series of scans and palpations, shouldn't take more than a few, alright? I'll explain everything as I do it."

She shrugged."Of course, Doctor. As long as you are careful around my scalp scales." Mica laughed. In truth, it had been a point of contention with a doctor two starbases ago - a lieutenant medical crewman had been assessing Mica after a rare mission and caught one of the scales within her hair with the edge of a tool. The experience was an uncomfortable one she didn't wish to repeat.

"I should mention, Doctor, that my medical file may be slightly...off."

"Slightly off?" Calvin asked, slowing down his subconsciously run routine of assessment. "How so?"

"There was a...mix-up let's call it. I don't believe the correction has been made yet, but the file likely still notes me as Trill."

"Do elaborate," He prodded, continuing his assessment at a slower pace than normal. As his hands fiddled between tricorder and palpation, he gave short fragmented explanations to each.

Mica's usual smile strained as she tried to keep at least a semblance of it. It wasn't in her nature to frown.

"My parents, my adopted parents that is, they raised me as trill . It wasn't until much later that I found out I was Enaran. Just recently, actually." she did grin then. "Not that it matters much. Trill, Enaran, close enough." she chuckled, knowing it wasn't true.

Calvin chuckled at the comment, nearing complete with his physical exam. "Well at least you have it figured out now. Any problems recently? Aches, pains, abnormalities?"

"No sir. None at all."

Finishing up his scan, he spent a moment tapping the tricorder while he added in the additional assessments he performed by hand. With a snap the tricorder closed and he smiled, walking back around to the console. "Great, that's always good news. Well you look like you are in good health, nothing to worry about. Some of the labs take a little while to process, but no news is good news. Any questions for me?" He tapped a few inputs into the console, and looked back up to her.

She shook her head. "No, Doc, none at all. Any advice for an officers first time on a starship?"

Calvin smiled. "Never stop asking questions, and always be willing to say 'I don't know.' Those two things will get you places."
