Is this the real life? Is this just fantasy?

Posted on Mon Oct 28th, 2019 @ 11:55pm by Lieutenant JG Shaille Levine & Lieutenant Alanah Matashi & Lieutenant Commander Calvin Morgan & Ensign Jaimie Nolan

Mission: Sounds of Silence
Location: Security Office

The lights on the security console had been lowered, along with the ambient lighting in the small security office. Shaille leaned forward, one elbow resting against the console, her hand supporting her head as she worked, wincing with every beep the console emitted.

After speaking with the kid in the mess this morning she was more convinced than ever that what ever it was in her quarters overnight was the real deal, but her scans showed nothing. The surveillance footage she had taken from her quarters showed nothing. She played it again, watching herself walk from the bedroom to the living space, pausing, then going for her phaser. There was a slight flicker, like a glitch in the code, but that was it. She sighed heavily and closed her eyes for a moment, willing herself not to fall asleep.

The pain was so intense for Alanah it was unbearable. She had a hard time figuring if she was more upset over the headache, the fact that every nerve in her body felt every little sensation, or the fact that she could get any notice out of her throat. It was like her vocal cords where just gone. She stood up cause sitting wasnt helping. As she made her way out the door she dropped to her knees and her whole body hurt. She crumbled almost coming to tears in front of Levine.

Shaille's knee jerk reaction would have been to snap at the amount of noise that was being made, but she couldn't snap, she couldn't talk, she couldn't even manage a whisper. Her mouth moved and no sound came out.

She blinked, clearing her own vision as she looked away from the console, her gaze falling on Alanah. Forcing herself to stand, she made her way across the deck between them, one pain filled movement after another as she put her arm around her boss, slowly helping her to her feet, the other woman leaning into her heavily. There was no way they could make it to sickbay like this. Instead, Shaille, motioned toward the console she had been working at.

Helping Alanah across, Shaille accessed the transporter controls and initiated a site to site transport, both of them materializing moments later in sickbay.

Jaimie had many things planned for today. There were monthly checks to be done, updating files and performance reviews on the other nurses. She sighed as she realized not a single blessed thing was done out of any of it. She snapped out of it, remembering that something big was happening in the ship. Which she was doubly reminded by the two people materializing in front of her. "Couldn't walk?" She asked in both a snappy tone but apologetic. It wasn't long before another nurse helped Jaimie with the two and got them both onto the same bio bed to sit for the moment.

Around them were dozens of crew, all in different states of agony and pain. Whatever was going on in the ship had spread like wildfire. Calvin's voice could be heard in the office. "I don't care what you think, I'm telling you the facts. Something is going around faster than people are interacting. I need Operations to do diagnostics on all the environmental systems. Check the cameras, I don't know, I'm a doctor. I treat, you fix. Fix!" He sounded only mildly annoyed, but with a hint of amusement, his default sarcastic attitude taking over when all else failed. He sighed as he looked out the window of his office to two new additions to his growing flock.

Alanah hurt so bad and the nurse that had come to help her sit up was getting on her last nerve. She had no clue or care she just wanted to lay down and die. The pain was to much. As she tried to lay back the nurse stopped her. This was the last straw Alanah found the control to let her rage take over she closed a fist and clocked the nurse right in the temple.

The nurse fell limp to the floor. Next Alanah looked at Shaille sitting on the bed in pain next to her. She tried to tell her to move, but couldn't get the words out. She decided a more direct approach and just shoved her off the side of the bed.

Between the throbbing pain in her head and the aches in the rest of the body, Shaille was not in the mood for any of this, but the sight of her department head attacking the nurse set her raging.

As Alanah shoved her, Shaille braced herself, hitting the floor hard, the shock of the unexpected impact rocketing through her entire body. Standing up slowly, she could feel her blood pressure rising, her heart beat echoing in her ears as she sucked in a sharp breath, her fist balling up next to her side.

Without thinking, she swung at Alanah, her fist connecting squarely with her bosses nose.

Alanah head swung to the right after the impact. She literally was seeing red from the blood rushing to her nose. She didn't even stop to check it was bleeding she stepped into Shaille's space and returned the favor with the cross elbow strike to her nose. Since she was working on pure rage her momentum took her through the swing and she toppled over the bio-bed to the floor.

Jaimie glanced back in, seeing the nurse on the ground out cold, and the two fighting. They looked amusing moving at the slow but still dangerous speed, and she chuckled as she stepped out, "Doc, problem," she stated swinging her fists back and forth. Calvin perked up and rolled his eyes, walking out of his office and grabbing two hyposprays.

Stepping into the room, he grinned and laughed. "My my, nurse sleeping on the job?" He stated as he slinked in behind Alanah to use her as a human shield. He leaned over her, hitting her with one hypospray as he got Shaille with the other. He was thankful they were almost on top of each other so he could reach both at the same time. "It's slumber party time, join the nurse now."

Shaille felt the hypospray just half a moment before heard the hiss of the delivery device. Pulling away, startled, she spun toward Calvin, her eyes widening, but it was already too late. She could feel the warmth of the sedative rushing through her body, the fuzziness washing over her. She fought for a moment, trying to stave off what would inevitably be welcome rest. She had heard Calvin arguing that this virus wasn't natural, he was right. She needed to try and tell him, to tell someone about what she saw. She knew she was right. There was someone or something on the ship causing this. She tried to speak but again no sound came, leaving her mouthing the words over until the sedation overcame her.

Alanah was trying to bring herself to her feet and was unaware of the hypo spray. As she thought she was getting up she struggled and could feel the warm embrace of the sedative take effect. She wanted to fight but just couldn't. She faded off not sure what was real and what was not.
