(Backlog) Meeting the local Spook

Posted on Wed Oct 16th, 2019 @ 7:12pm by Captain Amanda Foxwell

Mission: Sounds of Silence
Location: Intelligence Hub

Amanda decided it was time to meet the ships head spook. She walked out into the intelligence hub onboard the Astraea and looked around. The place was a hive of activity, with multiple different tasks being completed at the same time. She looked around, trying to work out who was in charge.

The office was busier than normal, or maybe it wasn't, Aleksi had been out of the regular fleet for so long it may be situation normal after all. Regardless he was in his element, moving between his small but surprisingly efficient team. It took him a few moments to notice the newcomer in green. A grin on his face he moved towards the woman, "Ah, the Detachment Commander graces us. I suppose you're looking for the warden of the mad house?"

Amanda nodded. “That I am.” She answered. “Marine Captain Amanda Foxwell 202nd Marine Batallion, 1st Company. Known among the command team as the chosen men.” She said, smiling. “So your our lead spook then?” She asked.

"Proud of that designation I take it," It was typical marine fashion, the whole brief when the BLUF would do. If she continued down this track it would be a rather predictable, and tedious, conversation. Switching the tea mug to his left hand, he offered his right, "Yes, Aleksander Voroshilov, the neighborhood intelligence chief."

"Good to meet you Lieutenant. I believe we'll be working closely quite alot." She said. "Anything you need from us just let me know and i'll see to it that you have it." She offered.

"Of course, and the same to you Captain," He counter-offered, "Would you care for something to drink? Perhaps a quick tour of our small but efficient team?"

Amanda nodded. "That would be lovely, thank you. And i'm fine for a drink, thank you though." She replied, starting to follow the Intel Officer.

"Where are you coming from?" It was the default question, but could cage how he'd frame the conversation. A conversation with a line officer would be drastically different than one who had been a desk pilot their entire career. He made his was to an analyst deep into some sort of data, "This here where raw MASINT, essentially black magic, is turned from useless gibberish to something tangible. Primary concern to you would be the presence of NBC compounds and the ability to defeat most camouflage and concealment."

Amanda nodded at the explanation. "Been on the line my whole life, started as a rank and file soldier, then worked my way up. And how often does the issue come up with camouflage and concealment?" She asked.

"It's a cheap and effective way to defeat the mighty Federation and anyone with any sense will use it. In our great arrogance we tend to ignore the usefulness of a simple camo net," He waved her on, moving onto a pair of crewman working on briefs, "So here is where our finished products get churned out. Tell Crewman Delle what your facing and she'll give a tailored brief."

"Assuming he isn't having me chasing ghosts," Tebiza grinned at the Marine, "But I'm sure he wouldn't mind me putting aside his pet projects to help you."

Amanda nodded again. "Well, I do appreciate that, hopefully though most of our assignments are going to be easy, and not require to much help. But at least I know where you are when I need you." She replied, smiling.

"I believe there's a saying about the only easy day being yesterday," Aleksi chuckled, walking her down to the next desk, "Where are you from Captain?"

"London, originally, however I moved to Australia for a few years before joining starfleet." She answered. "What about you?" She asked.

"Some shitty little backwater colony near Ferengi Space," Aleksi smiled, approaching the desk of a grumpy R'Mular, the only civilian on the team, "And lastly my over educated and overworked deputy, Mister R'Mular."

"Doctor," The Catian's tone indicated the irritation. Turning to the woman with a more pleasant tone he stood up, "He is correct on that last one, it's like watching a hormonal teenager at times. If you don't mind me asking ma'am, what unit were you with previously?"

Amanda smiled at the Catian before her. “Previously I was with the 21st Battalion as the Marine XO there. Decided I wanted a change and to command my own team, so now I’m here.” She answered still smiling. She looked around the intelligence department and continued smiling.

"Well, thank you for the tour." She said, turning and heading towards the door. She was satisfied she knew everyone in the room and had other things to get on with.
