Personality & Traits
General Overview | She's intelligent, observant, good at figuring things out but doesn't always see the need to immediately 'share with the class'. She can be patient, the way a hunter stalking prey is patient, and is unafraid to speak truth to power. That kind of honesty has not always endeared her to others or put her on a fast-track career-wise. Beneath the defenses she's built, and they are not insignificant, she's a loyal and caring friend with a strong altruistic streak. She likes herself and the life she's made. | |
Strengths & Weaknesses | Strengths: + Independent, Self-Reliant, Strong-Willed + Trusts her intuition backed by that tiny bit of empathy + Has good instincts about people/good at reading people/observant + Good with puzzles, patterns jump out at her, with an investigative mindset + Highly trained in hand-to-hand combat and in the use of weapons + Not afraid to do what's needed - even when its difficult/a survivor Weaknesses: - Retreats into solitude when dealing with something difficult - Finds it hard to resist a mystery. Put a wrapped present in a trapped room and she WILL find a way to get at it. - Submission is not a word she would EVER apply to herself - Something of an adrenaline junkie Likes: + Hot tea - always has an assortment of teas available, from many worlds + Bath by candelight - there aren't words or ... better still, hot tub by candlelight! + Dislikes: - Bar bets. She's not going to bite. If pressed, she'll quote Sky Masterson from Guys and Dolls: "One of these days in your travels, a guy is going to show you a new deck of cards on which the seal is not yet broken. Then this guy is going to offer to bet you that he can make the jack of spades jump out of this brand-new deck of cards and squirt cider in your ear. But, son, do not accept this bet because as sure as you're standing here, you're going to wind up with an ear full of cider." - People who lie especially people who lie when there's no need and bullies ... definitely bullies ... oh and snobs. Those too. - Not being there when she's needed - Freedom matters to her, doesn't do well when she's confined/caged/trapped - People who stereotype security personnel ... especially female security personnel Quirks: * Not fearful by nature - bugs, reptiles, dark places, unusual food choices, none of that bothers her at all * Has cold feet - often wears socks to bed * Doesn't generally feel the need to share everything about herself and doesn't want to know everything about you straight away. Believes that relationships are something of a dance and prefers it that way. |

Ambitions | * Read the best ten books from every Federation world * Learn how to swear in Klingon (done!) * Spend the night in a haunted house * Get a Vulcan to smile (done - and it was hard too!) * Get enough time off to see Inner Rhino in concert * Play cut throat Monopoly with Max and the Uncles again * Stand somewhere no one else has been |
|
Hobbies & Interests | + Reading - will read just about anything + LaCrosse, Basketball, hiking/camping, horseback riding, swimming, and more + Live performances - especially theater + Spending time with friends + Horror movies and horror holoprograms |
Personal History | Born on Turkana IV, Nikki's parents, both respected physicians, were part of a civilian relief effort. No one was more surprised than Alandri and Sebastien when she discovered she was pregnant and, because it was unplanned and getting off Turkana IV wasn't exactly as easy as getting there had been, Nikki was born in their clinic in 2365. She was barely a year old when her parents were killed during a robbery. So what do you do when your parents, the altruistic saints, die before you even have a memory of them? I didn't mourn them, I never knew them. I was, however very angry with them for a long time. I know. I know. Not something you're supposed to feel about martyred doctors but there it is. She was ten when her grandfather, Maximillian St. John, after a protracted search, was finally able to orchestrate her rescue. Now ten years old, with ancient eyes and a guarded, hostile expression on her face, she was brought to Earth. She did not speak about those years; from the nightmares and the tiny snippets of information she begrudgingly gave, her grandfather began to understand and struggled to find a way to help her heal. In those first months, she stole and hoarded food, slept underneath her bed more often than on top of it and then, always clothed, and kept a go bag in the bottom of her closet that she didn't know he knew about. Max, who had retired as a career Starfleet Security officer to find her, now began the slow process of helping her heal. He read books, talked to counselors and victims of abuse, and finally, just spent time with her, listening and learning. Discovering who she was as an individual. The first step was teaching her how to defend herself. He taught her how to really see when they went for walks - troublemakers and law enforcement personnel alike. What to look for and how to go unnoticed if that's what she wanted. As she grew older, he taught her about disguises and the two of them had a grand time planning adventures and getting dressed up. His poker buddies, all former Starfleet themselves, became her Uncles. I used to wear his sweaters to bed; they were warm and filled with his scent. Safety. Because of him, I will never be a victim again. He didn't so much chase the monsters away as give me the tools I needed to do that for myself. And my Uncles? A bit intimidating but they're family and I'm keeping them. |

Service Record | 2383: Entered Starfleet Academy - Security Major/Minor in Intelligence 2387: Graduated Starfleet Academy. Assigned to the USS Shingen. 2388: Promoted Assistant Chief of Security, USS Shingen. 2390: Transfered to USS Steadfast. Promoted to Chief of Security. 2393: Transferred to USS Astrae, Chief of Security. 2387-2390: She was a regular member of away teams and was promoted to Assistant Chief of Security before she'd been on board a year. She proved to be a capable leader who understood her team and how to get the job done. With the other Assistant Chiefs, she organized the yearly games - a series of events in which all departments competed for bragging rights. There were only one rule: Events were always held covertly. There was always a humerous component and none of the tasks required specific skill. Ever try to walk down a corrdor with a freaking water balloon and not get caught by the senior officers? I highly recommend it! 2390-2393: Promoted to Chief of Security and spent three years aboard the USS Steadfast. The Steady was a good ship and the work was harder; the games changed. Now it was basketball and LaCrosse. Engineering did help organize the yearly anniversary celebration. The Captain made sure the ship wasn't on duty and for twenty-four hours, the enlisted were in charge and everyone had to contribute something unique and something they made themselves. Some of the food choices were ... interesting to say the least ... and there was always a lot of alcohol. A LOT of alcohol. The XO used to say that it was the best twenty-fours he barely remembered out of the whole year. First year, I had to agree! |
